Happy New Year & Welcome 2019!
Personally, I don’t make specific New Year’s Resolutions.
Because I constantly set new goals for myself on a regular basis.
Making Goal Setting A Practice
To me, goals have become a type of self care. They are a way I can push myself as well as allow myself to dream, think of new possibilities, and get excited about my life!
This year, I started keeping a specific Goal Journal. At the beginning of each month, I would write down a list of my goals for the month. Then the next month, I would go back and read through my goals, check some things off, see what was still relevant and start making a new list. I also made a point to Celebrate my little wins and big successes every single Friday (#FridayCelebrations). These simple practices started to create my new habits and really helped me focus in on doing the things that truly mattered – things that brought me closer to my goal. And more importantly, stop doing the things that didn’t. I got focused. I also enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that made me feel successful each week by reflecting on the week and making it a point to celebrate!
After listening to a podcast episode on goal setting, I decided to try the exercise of writing down a list of my 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years goals. While the 1 to 3 year goals were pretty easy to think about, the 5 and 10 year goals really pushed me to think outside what I knew about my life and start dreaming. What did I want my life to look like in 5 and 10 years? It honestly seemed like some type of out-of-body experience as I wrote things down I had never even thought about before.
My Biggest 2018 Accomplishment
One of my biggest goals for 2018 was to leave my day job and pursue what I loved full-time. Here’s the thing. Some of the goals you write down, you might just need a better practice to keep you consistent, or a slight change in your environment to tip of your success. Other goals can feel daunting and honestly, a bit terrifying. First, let me say that they should feel scary – they are new, exciting, and life changing! BUT. I repeat, BUT. Do not let your fear of the goal itself stop you from writing it down and going for it. Even if you have no clue how it will happen.
This was me at the beginning of 2018. I truly wanted so badly to achieve this goal and focus all my time and energy doing what I loved, focusing on my businesses. But I had no idea how this was possible… at least not yet.
This goal that changed my process about goal setting and achievement. Because it was more than just making a change or habit. Really, it was about the person I had to become in order to make it happen.
Now, by this, I don’t mean I had to change who I was by any means. But rather, I had to further step INTO who I am and become her MORE to see what I needed to do.
I know this might not make sense quite yet, but I promise you it will!
